Many advanced dental treatments are carried out by experienced dentists who have undertaken focused postgraduate training in a specific area, without holding a formal GDC specialist title. A GDC-registered specialist is a dentist who has completed a recognised specialty training programme and appears on an official GDC specialist list. At Circ Dental, Dr Kelly Smorthit holds this status in orthodontics. For other treatments, our dentists bring dedicated experience and advanced training to each case.

You can go to a general dentist for a preliminary consultation. However, you may be referred to experienced dental specialists if your dental problem is more complicated, or is beyond the scope of general dentistry treatments.

For routine dental check-ups and minor procedures, it might be better to go to a general dentist. However, if you need more complex treatments (such as dental implants or a root canal) or have severe gum disease, it’s best to see a specialist dentist.
