Typically, composite bonding is pain-free and doesn’t require anaesthetic as there is little alteration to the teeth being bonded. However, if your teeth or gums are particularly sensitive we can offer a local anaesthetic to ensure you are comfortable.

Yes, composite bonding can fix small gaps in between teeth and can therefore be an alternative to braces or Invisalign. However, if the gaps between your teeth are very wide or require complex treatment, we may recommend orthodontic work for a more lasting solution.

However, composite bonding is not suitable for everyone, especially if you require extensive work or your teeth are severely misaligned. For the composite to bond properly, the tooth which will be treated needs to have a healthy base. It is usually not recommended if you have severe gum disease, or if you are a heavy smoker.

Typically, composite bonding lasts between 4 and 8 years. With good oral hygiene and regular checkups, you can extend the longevity of your composites.

To maintain your composites, you should avoid biting on objects such as pens, and take care when biting into hard food, for example by using your back teeth. If you grind your teeth frequently, this could lead to the composites being damaged; a night guard can protect your teeth if you think this may be a problem. We recommend booking regular hygiene appointments, and a follow-up appointment within 12 to 18 months to check your composite and maintain its shine.

Composite bonding is typically considered reversible. However, in some cases, removing the bond might make the tooth slightly rough; after removal, it may need polishing.

While composites are highly effective, they do sometimes need replacement. If you are seeking a more permanent, extensive fix, we also offer porcelain veneers and dental crowns.

Porcelain veneers are thin shells which cover your tooth or teeth. However, as they are custom-made, the cost will be significantly higher; a very small part of your tooth may also need to be removed for a better fit.

Dental crowns, which completely cover your real tooth, are particularly suitable if your tooth is severely damaged or broken.
