What is the difference between veneers and composite bonding?

The short answer is that while both veneers and composite bonding give excellent results, veneers are made of porcelain, so they are smoother, more translucent and reflect the light in a way that resembles real tooth enamel. Veneers are also a permanent solution which means that they will only need to be replaced after 10-15 years or more.

Will veneers damage my natural teeth?

When your veneers are being fitted, a very small amount of tooth enamel will need to be shaven off so that we can ensure that the tooth is the right thickness for your veneers. However, this should not damage your teeth; in fact, having a veneer fitted can offer some protection to the material underneath it. But even with veneers, you still need to maintain good oral health through brushing, flossing and regular dental checkups.

Can I have a full smile makeover with veneers?

Yes! Veneers can be used to treat both individual teeth and a full smile. For our price list, see here.

Can veneers be removed?

As veneers are a permanent treatment, if they are removed, they will need to be replaced.

How long will my veneers take to be ready?

Usually, they will be ready around 2 weeks after your preparation appointment. When they are ready, we will let you know and you can come and see us in Wigan to get them placed.

Consultation with your veneers dentist

Firstly, your dentist will examine your mouth and take photos of your smile. We’ll also ask you about your treatment goals; even if you don’t have anything specific in mind, your dentist can talk through your options so you can see how your teeth could be transformed before and after porcelain veneers.

Digital dental impressions and modelling

If you agree to go ahead, we’ll take a digital scan of your teeth with a 3D scanner. This will let our dental team create an image of what your teeth will look like after we’ve fitted your veneers. You’ll have a choice of colours to choose from to match your tooth shade.

Preparation

When we prepare your veneers, we might have to remove a very small amount of your tooth enamel (around half a millimetre) so that the veneer will fit over your tooth properly when we place it. After this we’ll take another 3D scan to help our technicians create the porcelain veneers.

Veneer Placement

Our dental technicians will send us your veneers after about 2 weeks. Come and see us for a placement appointment, where our professional team will check that everything aligns with your bite. We’ll then bond your veneer to your teeth or teeth with a special dental cement.

Aftercare

After your veneers have been fitted, carry on coming for regular dental hygiene and checkup appointments so that we can check everything is going well. While porcelain veneers are durable, it’s best to avoid biting hard objects like pens. With the right care, your new smile could last up to 15 years!
