Is teeth whitening (also known as teeth bleaching) safe?

Yes, when carried out by a qualified dental professional. The whitening agents used at Circ Dental contain safe, regulated levels of hydrogen peroxide in line with UK dental guidelines. We also screen your teeth before treatment begins to make sure whitening is appropriate for you.

Will teeth whitening work on crowns, veneers or fillings?

Whitening gels only work on natural tooth enamel. If you have crowns, veneers, or composite bonding, these won’t change colour during treatment. We’ll talk through this with you at your consultation so there are no surprises.

Does teeth whitening hurt?

Some patients experience mild sensitivity during or after whitening, particularly to cold temperatures. This is normal and usually settles within a day or two. Our team will advise you on how to manage sensitivity and can adjust your treatment plan if needed.

Consultation

We start with a thorough examination of your teeth and gums. This lets us check for anything that might need addressing before whitening begins, such as decay, enamel loss, or signs of gum disease. It’s also the appointment where we walk you through both Boutique and Enlighten, so you can choose the system that suits your goals and timeline. Once you’re ready to go ahead, we take digital impressions using our iTero scanner. No messy putty involved.

Collect your whitening kit

Around two weeks after your consultation, your bespoke whitening trays will be ready to collect. Your dentist will show you exactly how to apply the gel and what to expect over the coming days.

Whitening at home

Treatment usually takes between 7 and 14 days, depending on your chosen whitening system, your starting tooth shade, and the degree of discolouration. Our team is on hand if you have any questions along the way.

Maintaining your results

Once you’re happy with your shade, we’ll provide you with top-up gels to keep things looking fresh over time. We recommend using these no more than twice a year to maintain your results comfortably.
