What can braces help with?

invisalign before after
Crowded teeth

Your teeth get overcrowded when there is not enough space for them all to fit normally. This can make it difficult to clean your teeth and make them susceptible to decay.

invisalign before after
Large gaps

If you have gaps between your teeth this can lead to food getting stuck when you eat, which can lead to inflammation and potentially decay. It can also cause problems with the tooth directly above where the gap is.

invisalign before after
Open bite

If you have an open bite, it means the top and bottom rows of teeth do not touch each other when you close your mouth. This can make chewing harder food difficult.

invisalign before after
Underbite

Having an underbite means that your bottom front teeth are in front of your top teeth when you close your mouth. This can be caused by your lower jaw being too far forward. Left untreated it can cause problems with chewing and make your teeth wear down faster.

invisalign before after
Overbite

An overbite happens when your front teeth overlap your bottom ones. Most people have this to a degree but if your overbite is too big it can cause your teeth to wear down. It can also cause discomfort in your jaw.

invisalign before after
Crossbite

If you have a crossbite, some of your bottom teeth will stick outside your front teeth when you bite down. If this is untreated this could lead to severe pain in your jaw, gum problems and eventually loss of bone in your jaw.

Benefits of fixed braces

Step by Step

1

Consultation

Our specialist orthodontist, Dr Kelly Smorthit, will examine your teeth and discuss your treatment goals. You’ll be able to choose which type of braces you want to go for, including metal or ceramic. We will put together a detailed treatment plan and you will be able to see how your teeth will look after they’ve been straightened.

2

Fitting your braces

If you choose to go ahead, you’ll have your braces fitted on the next appointment. Typically this takes around an hour (half an hour for each row of teeth). This process is simple and pain free.

3

Teeth straightening

Once your braces have been fitted, you’ll have regular appointments with us in Wigan to make sure everything is going well. At every appointment, we’ll adjust your braces to make sure they continue working, moving your teeth into their final positions. Typically, this process lasts between 12 to 18 months.

4

Brace removal

Once your treatment has been completed, you can come and get your braces taken off at the last appointment, revealing a beautiful straight smile! You’ll also get a retainer fitted to ensure your teeth stay in the right places.
